Lisa A. Marino is the founding member of Marino & Assoc., PC, a boutique real estate law firm located on the Northwest Side of Chicago. A large part of Ms. Marino’s practice is dedicated to real estate tax assessment protests filed on behalf of commercial, industrial and residential property owners. Additionally, Lisa‘s practice is devoted to other real estate related matters such as: commercial, industrial and residential real estate closings; zoning and land use matters; and qualifying properties for condominium ownership and development.
Lisa graduated from De Paul University (B.A. Sociology) in 1985 and De Paul University College of Law (J.D.) in 1988. She also studied abroad at Loyola University’s Rome Center in Rome, Italy. Ms. Marino’s legal career began in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. As an Assistant State’s Attorney, Ms. Marino prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases. Lisa also defended Cook County Real Estate Taxing Officials while assigned to the Civil Division in the State’s Attorney’s Office. While in the Real Estate Tax Unit, Lisa headed the Real Estate Tax Exemption Department and participated in the re-writing of the Real Estate Tax Objection Practice and Procedural Rules for the Circuit Court of Cook County.
As a result of her passion for excellence and service to others, in 2004 Ms. Marino received the prestigious “David” award from the Italo American National Union Foundation, an award bestowed upon individuals in recognition of outstanding achievement in their careers. Lisa was also recognized for her dedication and service to the Italian Community by Illinois State Treasurer, Judy Baar Topinka in November, 2005, as a recipient of “The Italian Heritage Award.” In 2006, Lisa was honored by former Cook County President Bobbie Steele and the Cook County Comissioners for her dedication to the law and the community. Most recently, in October 2009, Lisa is being honored by Dorothy Brown, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, as a recipient of the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award.
Ms. Marino is a Fellow of the Illinois State Bar Association and has served three elected terms as a member of the General Assembly. She has also served as a member of the Judicial Evaluation Committee; Judicial Advisory Polls Committee; Assembly Credentials and Admissions Committee; and the State and Local Taxation Section Council of the ISBA.
In addition to serving as President of the Justinian Society of Lawyers, Ms. Marino served on the Board of Directors of the National Italian American Bar Association, Vice Chairman of the Human Relations Committee and a member of the Scholarship and Mentoring Committee of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans. Lisa is also a member of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois; the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association; and the Real Estate Taxation and Real Property Law Committees of the Chicago Bar Association. Lisa has also lectured at many seminars on the subject of real estate and real estate tax.
In addition to her service in the legal community, Lisa serves as a member of the Board of Directors for CHARACTER (Care, Act, Learn) a non-profit organization serving youth and families in the North Lawndale Community. Lisa has also been active in supporting the efforts of other non-profit organizations such as Core El Centro and Girls in the Game.
Ms. Marino is admitted to practice law in Illinois and the United States Supreme Court and lives in Chicago with her son, Maximilian.
